Overview
Yuzawaya is a Japanese chain of craft supply stores that sells fabric, yarn, craft materials, art supplies and more. It is operated by Yuzawaya Shoji Co., Ltd. The official website introduces it as a large specialty store for handmade hobby materials. Yuzawaya started in 1955 as a yarn shop in Kamata, Tokyo. When we counted the stores in the store list on the official website on October 21, 2026, there were 75 stores in operation. This article explains how to shop at Yuzawaya during your trip, based on Yuzawaya's official information (checked on October 21, 2026).
- Besides fabric, yarn and craft materials, Yuzawaya also sells stickers and oshikatsu supplies. Oshikatsu means activities to support a person or character you love (called “oshi” in Japanese). The store we photographed had a sticker section and a section of materials for making small items for oshikatsu. For details, see “What to buy” in this article.
- The Kamata store is the first store Yuzawaya opened. The Kamata store is divided into three buildings: Building No. 5, Building No. 6 and Building No. 7. There are also stores in Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Okachimachi and Kichijoji in Tokyo, in Yokohama, in Namba and Umeda in Osaka, and in Kyoto, Sapporo, Nagoya and Fukuoka. For details, see “Where to buy” in this article.
- The Kyoto Yodobashi store near Kyoto Station closed on April 29, 2026. On May 15, 2026, the Kyoto store moved into AEON MALL Kyoto Gojo.
- You can join the membership program, Yuzawaya Tomo-no-kai (友の会), at a store. The joining fee is ¥550 (tax included), and according to the official information, anyone can join. Members can buy eligible items at 10% off the regular price. However, specially priced items and some other items are not eligible for the discount. Also, if you pay at a store by credit card or a similar method, the discount rate becomes lower. For details, see “Checkout and store” in this article.
- There is no tax-free information on the official website. For details, see “Conditions” in this article.
- There is an official online shop for people who live outside Japan. For details, see “Delivery” in this article.

The photo shows the entrance of a Yuzawaya store, taken by the site operator. Above the entrance is a “ユザワヤ” (Yuzawaya) sign, and along the top of the back wall is a row of red-and-white striped price signs. The faces of the people in the photo have been blurred.
All the photos in this article were taken by the site operator in 2026 at one Yuzawaya store. The prices on the price tags in the photos are that store's prices at the time the photos were taken.
What to buy
A look at the sections
The following photos were taken by the site operator at one Yuzawaya store. Not every store carries the same items. Each store's page on the official website lists the sections that store has.
Stickers

The store we photographed had large tables lined with stickers. Stickers of Sanrio and other characters were also arranged by character.

This is the section for “ぷっくりシール” (puffy stickers), stickers with a raised, puffy surface. The sign above read “1枚 特価 198円” (special price, 198 yen per sheet) and “(税込217円)” (217 yen including tax). Many stickers with pictures of animals, fruit, jewels and more were on display.

When we took the photo, a sign for a sale only for Tomo-no-kai members was hanging there. The sign read “よりどり10枚以上の購入でレジにてさらに10%引き” (buy 10 or more of your choice and get an extra 10% off at the register). This means that Tomo-no-kai members who buy 10 or more stickers in total (you can mix different kinds) get an extra 10% off the price on the sign at the register. This sale is a limited-time sale, separate from the regular Tomo-no-kai discount explained in “Checkout and store” in this article. The sign does not say whether paying by credit card or a similar method lowers the discount rate for this sale. Check the sale period on the store's signs or flyers.
Files for collecting stickers

The section with the “シール帳” (sticker book) sign had files for sticking in or storing the stickers you collect, and clear pages to put inside them. The price tags on the files with character pictures on the cover read “990円” and “890円” (990 yen and 890 yen).
Oshikatsu materials

This is the section with the “推し活パーツ” (oshikatsu parts) sign. It had clear pouches and cases for holding photos and merchandise of a person or character you love, and small items for decorating them.

Along the top of the wall display was a row of signs reading “推しぬい・推し活材料” (oshinui and oshikatsu materials) and other words. Oshinui are plush toys made to look like a person or character you love. Many clothes and hats for small plush toys, materials for making plush toys and other items were hanging there.
“パーツバイキング” (parts buffet): choosing decorative parts

Resin decorative parts are sorted by type into a box divided into small compartments. The signs read “パーツバイキング よりどり5個 特価 298円” (parts buffet, any 5 pieces of your choice, special price 298 yen) and “(税込327円)” (327 yen including tax). This means that if you choose 5 parts in total (you can mix different kinds), you pay this price.
Squishy toys

This is the section for “スクイーズ” (squishy toys), toys that dent when you squeeze them and slowly return to their shape when you let go. Squishy toys shaped like bread and sweets were lined up, and the price tags read “1,380円”, “1,480円”, “1,580円” (1,380 yen, 1,480 yen, 1,580 yen) and other prices.
Ribbons

In the ribbon section, rolls of ribbon were arranged by color. The sign at the top center read “両面サテンリボン” (double-sided satin ribbon), “1巻 3m” (3 m per roll), “1巻 特価 198円” (special price, 198 yen per roll) and “(税込217円)” (217 yen including tax).
Fabric, yarn and craft materials
What Yuzawaya stores sell differs from store to store. According to the section lists on each store's page on the official website, most stores have sections for dress fabric for women (fabric for making clothes), cotton (cotton fabric), yarn, craft materials and sewing machines. Some stores also have sections for beads, art supplies, stationery and calligraphy supplies.
Among the stores in the table in “Where to buy” in this article, the section list for the Tobu Ikebukuro store includes sections for fabric, dressmaking (sewing clothes) materials, sewing machines and other items, but no yarn section. Before you go, check the section list on the store's page.

Kamata store
The Kamata store is the first store Yuzawaya opened, as a yarn shop, in 1955. According to the official website, the Kamata store's sections are divided among the following three buildings.
- Building No. 5: an oshikatsu section and a nuikatsu section. Nuikatsu is the hobby of taking plush toys along on outings and displaying them.
- Building No. 6: fabric, yarn, craft materials, sewing machines, beads, art supplies, stationery, calligraphy supplies and more
- Building No. 7: the section called “推しコスパ” (oshi kosupa), accessories, jigsaw puzzles, curtains, outlet items and more
The official website does not explain what the word “推しコスパ” means. In the store the site operator photographed, the price signs for stickers and ribbons also had the words “推しコスパ” printed on them.
The Kamata store's page says that the Kamata store renovated its sections on October 1, 2026.

- The official information says that anyone can join. Only individuals can become members; companies and organizations cannot join. The person joining must complete the application themselves.
- You can join in any section of a Yuzawaya store. You receive your membership card on the spot and can use it right away.
- According to the membership terms, Yuzawaya registers each member's address, name, date of birth, phone number, email address and other details. The terms do not say whether the registered address can be an address outside Japan. Ask the store staff when you join.

Payment methods
When we checked on October 21, 2026, Yuzawaya's official website had no list of the payment methods accepted at stores. The Tomo-no-kai membership terms include a rule for paying at a store by credit card, debit card, prepaid card or e-money (see “Discounts” in this article). Before paying, check at the register whether the payment method you want to use is accepted. How to use cash and cards in Japan is explained in Do You Need Cash in Japan? | Where Cards Work, ATMs That Accept Overseas Cards, and Currency Exchange.
Conditions
Can you buy tax-free?
When we checked on October 21, 2026, Yuzawaya's official website (the company profile, each store's page, the membership information and the latest news) had no information about tax-free shopping. The official website does not say which stores allow tax-free purchases or how the tax-free procedure works.
If you want to buy tax-free, ask the store staff at the register, before you pay, whether you can buy tax-free at that store.
Japan's tax-free system from November 1, 2026
Japan's tax-free system changed on November 1, 2026. According to the Japan Tourism Agency, for items bought tax-free on or after November 1, 2026, no matter which store they were bought at, you must leave Japan within 90 days from the day of purchase and have them checked by customs at the airport or seaport when you leave. According to the Japan Tourism Agency, when you have the customs check, you must have with you all the items you bought tax-free. Have the check done before you check in your baggage at the airline counter.
The conditions for tax-free shopping and the procedure when you leave Japan are explained in Tax-Free Shopping in Japan | The Refund Method from November 2026 and What to Do When You Leave Japan.
Delivery
Online shop for people who live outside Japan
Yuzawaya has an official online shop for people who live outside Japan, “world.yuzawaya.shop.” According to Yuzawaya's announcement in November 2024, you can order from this online shop from outside Japan, and it ships items outside Japan. The announcement says the shop supports 10 languages: Japanese, English, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Korean, Arabic, French, Italian, German and Russian.
The shipping rules on this online shop's “Shipping Policy” page are as follows.
- Items are shipped by EMS or UPS.
- The “Shipping Time” is given as “1–7 business days from the order date.” It does not say whether this is the number of days until the item arrives or the number of days until the item is sent out.
- Because stock is shared with other online shops, an item may go out of stock after you order it. In that case, Yuzawaya will contact you.
- For items shipped to the United States, the shipping rules say that import duties and customs clearance fees are included in the item price, and you do not have to pay duties or customs clearance fees when the items arrive. For items shipped to the United States, the shipping rules do not mention import taxes other than duties and customs clearance fees. Shipping costs are separate.
- For items shipped to countries and regions other than the United States, you may have to pay duties, import taxes and customs clearance fees when the items arrive.
- There are countries and regions that items cannot be shipped to. Check the “Shipping Policy” page.
Online shops within Japan
Separately, there is an official Japanese-language online shop, “yuzawaya.shop.” According to the official information, the site for people who live outside Japan is world.yuzawaya.shop. Yuzawaya also has stores on Rakuten Ichiba, Yahoo! Shopping, Amazon, au PAY Market and Qoo10.
Beware of sites pretending to be Yuzawaya
In an announcement on September 27, 2026, Yuzawaya warned that there are fraudulent sites that use Yuzawaya's company name and address to pretend to be Yuzawaya and sell products. There is a risk, for example, that you pay but the items never arrive, or that your ID, password or credit card information is stolen. The sales sites that Yuzawaya operates are listed in this announcement.
Sending your purchases
If you end up with a lot of items from the stores, ways to send your luggage to your hotel or the airport are explained in Send Your Suitcase by Courier | Airport to Accommodation, Accommodation to Airport (Yamato Transport).
