From Haneda Airport to Central Tokyo | How to Choose Between the Keikyu Line, Tokyo Monorail, and Airport Limousine
Compare three ways to get from Haneda Airport to central Tokyo by fare, travel time, and where you get off. The comparison is based on official information from the Keikyu Line, Tokyo Monorail, and Airport Limousine buses.
Overview
From Haneda Airport, you can reach central Tokyo on two rail lines or by bus. Which one to choose comes down to two things: which station you want to get off at and whether you are willing to transfer. Here we compare three routes with officially published fares.
- Keikyu Line: Goes to Shinagawa. You can transfer to JR lines at Shinagawa.
- Tokyo Monorail: Goes to Hamamatsucho. You can transfer to the JR Yamanote Line at Hamamatsucho.
- Airport Limousine bus: Goes to Shinjuku and other areas with no transfers. You can stow large luggage.

The fares and times in the table are for boarding at the Terminal 3 station. International flights arrive at Terminal 3, and some also arrive at Terminal 2. If you board at the Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 station, the fare to Shinagawa or Hamamatsucho is the same, but the trip takes a little longer.
The rail fares shown are for paper tickets. If you ride with an IC card such as Suica, the fare is calculated in 1-yen units and is slightly cheaper than a paper ticket.
Age rules for child fares
- Keikyu Line and Tokyo Monorail: Adults are 12 and older; children are 6 to 11. A 12-year-old who is still in elementary school pays the child fare. Children aged 1 to 5 ride free, up to two per adult or child. From the third child on, the child fare applies.
- Airport Limousine: The child fare applies to elementary school students as defined in Japan (ages 6 to 12). A 12-year-old who is still in elementary school pays the child fare. Children not yet in elementary school ride free if they do not use a seat. If they use a seat, the child fare applies.
There are also other options.
- Other Airport Limousine routes: There are separate routes by destination, such as Tokyo Station and T-CAT, and fares differ by route. Check the official Airport Limousine website.
- Taxi: You can reach many areas of Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture at a fixed fare (some areas excluded). Expressway tolls are charged separately from the fixed fare. Check the amount with each taxi company.
Step by step
Getting to the station (Terminal 3)
Floors are numbered the Japanese way, as on the airport signs (1F is the ground floor).
- Keikyu Line: The ticket gates for trains toward central Tokyo and Yokohama are in the Arrivals Lobby on the 2nd floor (2F).
- Tokyo Monorail: The ticket gates are in the Arrivals Lobby on the 2nd floor (2F) and the Departures Lobby on the 3rd floor (3F).
Buying tickets and going through the gates
- On both the Keikyu Line and the Tokyo Monorail, you can go through the gates with an IC card such as Suica. If you do not have an IC card, buy a ticket from a ticket machine. - On the Keikyu Line, you can also ride by tapping a contactless-enabled credit card or similar at the gate. However, if a child rides using contactless payment, the adult fare is charged, not the child fare. It also cannot be used at the dedicated JR transfer gates at Shinagawa Station.
- Airport Limousine tickets can be bought on the booking website or from a ticket machine at the airport on the day.
Costs
Of the three, the Keikyu Line is the cheapest: ¥330 for adults and ¥170 for children to Shinagawa. The Tokyo Monorail costs ¥520 for adults and ¥260 for children to Hamamatsucho.
With either one, if you continue beyond Shinagawa or Hamamatsucho, the fare for the line you transfer to is added. Choose based on the station closest to where you are staying.
The Airport Limousine to Shinjuku costs ¥1,400 for adults and ¥700 for children. It costs more than the train, but there are no transfers and you can stow large luggage. It is a good choice when you have a lot of luggage or are traveling with children.
