Overview
You want to reach the door of your hotel from Narita Airport without changing vehicles, you have a lot of luggage, or you arrive at a time of day when trains and buses are infrequent. For those situations, the ways to travel are the Airport Limousine bus and the taxi.
- Airport Limousine bus: runs direct to major hotels and terminal stations in central Tokyo. You can hand over large luggage to be stowed.
- Fixed-fare taxi: a taxi whose fare is set for each destination zone. It takes you door to door.

Airport Limousine fares differ by destination. The two above are representative routes. For other destinations, check the official Tokyo Airport Transportation website.
The fare for a fixed-fare taxi is set by which zone of Tokyo you are going to and which expressway is used. The cheapest zones are those toward Edogawa, Katsushika and Adachi; the most expensive are those toward Setagaya, Suginami, Mitaka and Musashino. Step by step
Taking the Airport Limousine bus
- Buy a ticket at the bus ticket counter in the arrivals lobby. You can also buy one on the reservation website.
- Go to the bus stop number printed on your ticket. The number changes with the destination and the terminal.
- Hand large luggage to the staff before you board. You collect what you handed over at the place where you get off.
Taking a fixed-fare taxi
- Go to the taxi stand just outside the arrivals lobby. No reservation is needed.
- Before you get in, tell the driver that you want the fixed fare and where you are going.
- The expressway toll is charged on top of the fixed fare. It is money you pay in addition to the fixed fare, not another way of paying the fixed fare.
Costs
On the Airport Limousine, the child fare is half the adult fare. It applies to elementary school children (age 6 to 12), and a 12-year-old who is still at elementary school pays the child fare. A child who has not yet started elementary school travels free if they do not use a seat. If the child uses one seat, the child fare applies.
A fixed-fare taxi is priced per vehicle, so the amount does not change as the number of people goes up. The expressway toll is added on top of that fixed fare. There is a surcharge late at night and early in the morning (22:00 to 5:00). For destinations that are reached via the Aqua-Line, a further amount is charged as well.
Compared with the trains and the airport bus, the Airport Limousine is a little more expensive and the taxi is considerably more expensive. Choose by how much luggage you have, how many people you are, and what time you arrive. Good to know
- Services that stop at hotels can also be used by people who are not staying at that hotel (as a rule). You may be able to use the stop at a nearby hotel.
- Late at night and early in the morning, when both trains and buses run less often, always check the time of the last service in the official timetable. If you cannot make it in time, you will end up using a taxi or a hotel near the airport.
